• 031515。tbp@dhs。前日の日没前の夕方、翌日の午前中にたくさんの本種を見た。
• 花粉を食べて、花粉の固まりのような糞も出していた。
• 今回採集は見送ったが、食草となる植物を栽培するために、まずはこの写真から植物の同定を行うこと。

• 031515。tbp@dhs。敷地内ハイキングトレイル脇に咲く黄色の花の下の地面で歩行困難になっているところを採集。羽化不全の為に飛べないのか、かなり弱っている様子。リンゴの皮を与えたところ食べているような様子を見せたものの数日で死亡。
• 前翅の模様だけみると、同じツチハンミョウ科のZonitis vittigeraにも似ているが、そもそも西海岸には分布していないこともあるし、脚の色は黒くない。
• 顎の下あたりから突き出ているように見える長い刺のようなものについては、虫友Dに聞いても分からず。ミュンヘン工科大学のAndreas P. Wilhelmiさんと、ウイーン大学の生物学者・Harald Krennさんの研究論文から推察すると、おそらくこの長い刺状の器官は花の蜜を吸い上げるためのものと思われる。；以下抜粋、"Feeding mechanisms：Leptopalpus rostratus（ポルトガルのツチハンミョウ科） was observed to feed from inflorescences of Cenraurea（ヤグルマギク属） species (Asteraceae) by inserting the mouthparts into the florets (Handschin 1929). The assumption that nectar ascends to the mouth between the median bristles of the loosely connected maxillary palps, galeae, and laciniae by capillarity is plausible. However, our study indicates that nectar uptake is supported by a sucking pump‐like organ in the head. The contraction of the massive dilator and compressor muscles of the cibarium and prepharynx might accelerate nectar ingestion from the preoral cavity and force nectar uptake into the esophagus."
• 標本にしておけば、今年の虫フェアで誰かに見せて聞くことも出来る。あるいはウイーン大学迄問い合わせてみるのも一案。
• 写真家Alex WildさんがNemognatha属の口が蝶の口吻（proboscis）と同じであることを指摘している。

• 031415。tbp@dhs。午前９時。
• 駐車場の先にあるハイキングトレイルにて、忙しく歩行中のところを手で触らずに採集。
• 採集後ケース内でも絶えず動き回る様子はゴミムシダマシとは明らかに異なる。
• 採集当日午後、リンゴの皮を与えたが特に食べている形跡を目視出来なかった。翌日にはサボテンの切り身を与えたところだが、じっと食べるところを確認出来ていない。
• 031615。リンゴの皮にじっとしがみついている様子を確認。食べている可能性あり。
• 近所のローカル・プラント専門店に以下植物を扱っているかどうか確認すること；Creosote Bush（LARREA TRIDENTATA）←栽培するなら盆栽化させるしかない／Desert Goldenhead（Acamptopappus sphaerocephalus）／Esteve's Pincushion（Chaenactis stevioides）、Desert-Sunflower（Geraea canescens）／Spanish needle（Palafoxia arida）／Gilia(Globe Gilia等）、

  Desert calico（Loeseliastrum matthewsii）／Woody crinklemat（Tiquilia）。

オオカバマダラ（Danaus plexippus）Monarch Butterfly

• 120614。mptc。ベンチ脇にて発見。近づいてもまったく飛べす、逃げることもしないところを捕獲。
• 飼育ネットにて、蜂蜜を薄めた水をティッシュペーパーに含ませたものをプラスチックのお皿にのせて飼育開始。122614迄、生存を確認。
• 毎日、数回だけだが、飛ぶ練習をするかのように翅を伸ばしてネット内を飛び移るにように移動。
• 011315。死亡を確認。ティッシュペーパーに自動給水する仕掛けは機能していた様子あり。飼育ネットをブラインドを開けた状態の窓際において、日の出・日の入りを感じさせてあげていれば、もしかしたら帰ってくるまで生きていてくれただろうか、、と後悔。
• このMonarchとはどこか心が通じるような不思議な瞬間が何度かあったし、これを機会に蝶の標本作りを試みるのも面白い。軟化材を使わずとも標本化が可能なようでもあるし、まずは最初に死んだ状態で拾ってきたもの２体で練習すること。

• 落ち葉やゴミ等が集まってしまう吹きだまりのようなテニスコートの角。死後かなり経過していると思われる。
• 後翅に黒い斑点。
• 気温さえ高めであれば、多少風が吹いていても飛んでいるものもまだまだ見かける。
• 昨年10月16日発行のNature誌の記事の入手については後日。本種の祖先がで200万年も前から集団移動していた等興味深い。
